Due to the intense rains and flooding provoked by the climatological phenomenon La Niña and in response to the institutional agreement to provide support to people in need and who are affected by the emergencies, CARE International in Bolivia has decided to act, in a spirit of collaboration, concern and solidarity for the affected families in the department of Chuquisaca, through the project “Attention to Emergencies in communities of the Central Chuquisaca Union,” benefiting more than 2.700 people in three municipalities: Tomina, Sopachuy and Tarvita.
This is a short-term project, committed to resolving the humanitarian crisis and to bring dignity to the population affected by the climactic phenomena in rural communities in Central Chuquisaca, this initiative is made in cooperation with the aid programs of CARE USA, with 50.000 dollars set aside to help the worst affected communities, also in coordination with the Prefecture of the department of Chuquisaca, Municipal Governments, the Operative Committee for Department Emergencies and the participation of the beneficiaries themselves in the regions affected.
The components for the project’s intervention are aimed at:
Humanitarian Aid
• Provisions for the families affected (kitchenware, blankets).
Agricultural Production
• Help with tools for the rehabilitation of arable plots (picks, spades, hoes and wheelbarrows).
• Help with material to protect crops (wire fences, clamps, posts, chicken netting), along with gabions for communal protection (school and/o community).
