For a world without poverty: CARE participated with other NGOs in an information Fair

To commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, CARE International Bolivia participated along with 19 other NGOs in the “Feria de El Prado” in the city of La Paz last Sunday 28th October, showing their work and workers/tradesmen of our country: artisans making clothing, young people and women micro-businessmen/women from the city of El Alto, local economic development, rainforest and environment conservation amongst other things.

The Coordinator of International Non-Governmental Organizations (CONGI) in Bolivia and The Integral Health Coordination Program (PROCOSI), which group development organizations, for the second year consecutively wish to inform the general population so that all social actors can form a part of the eradication of poverty and demand the fulfilment of the millennium objectives.

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has taken place on the 17th October each year, since 1993, when a declaration from the United Nations Assembly was made, with a proposal to promote greater understanding of the problems of poverty- in particular in developing countries, regarding the need to eradicate hunger and extreme poverty, reduce infant mortality, combat AIDS and improve maternal health, amongst other things. However, if we do not raise our efforts, it is estimated that by the year 2015 there will still be 800 million people living on less than a dollar a day, while the goal proposed for the Millennium Development Objectives ODM is 420 million.
The eight Millennium Development Objectives http://www.un.org/spanish/millenniumgoals/, aim to reduce extreme poverty by half as well as fight against the spreading of HIV/AIDS and attaining universal primary education by the year 2015, constituting a plan for all people of all nations and all major development institutions at a global level. The objectives have galvanized efforts in an unprecedented way to help the world’s poorest people.
CARE contributes and responds to Bolivia’s priorities, focusing its work in creating a country of hope, tolerance and social justice, in this way poverty has been overcome and the people live with dignity, security and exercising their rights. This has been achieved through years serving the people and families of the country’s poorest communities thanks to a united effort with the communities, the Government and other social actors to achieve a greater impact on the life and development of the Bolivian population.
