Tri-national workshop for treating problems of forest fires in the Amazon Basin of Bolivia, Peru and Brazil
The workshop for the “Validation and Complementation of the legal and institutional diagnosis related to collapses, damages and forest fires in Pando – Bolivia, Acre – Brazil and Madre de Dios – Peru,” hosted on September of this year in the city of Cobija (Pando, organized by the Council of the Department of Pando and CARE Bolivia through the Tri-national Amazon Program.
The workshop denoted the following objectives:
a) To validate and complement the legal and institutional diagnosis related to forest fires in the state of Acre in Brazil, the Region of Madre de Dios in Peru and the Department of Pando in Bolivia.
b) To achieve a raise in levels of participative initiatives which will encourage strategic lines of development to formulate an Action Plan designed to facilitate inter-institutional coordination between the authorities and social and economic participants in the regions involved in the three countries.
In this respect, the project includes the participation of the 37 representatives of public institutions and NGOs which work in the region of the PAT, related to the subject with standards established in the projects’ legislation or for projects or programs aimed at the prevention, monitoring and evaluation of forest fires.
During the implementation of the workshop, the results obtained in the diagnosis were presented along with a model with the relevant indicators and the problems detected in order to later form meetings to validate and complement the work.
Finally a common vision will be realized with regard to the problem in the region which involves the three countries and identify lines of action to come up with possible solutions to the problems and priorities identified, within the following:
- Institutional strengthening
- Fortifying prevention activities
- Training in environmental legislation and forest fires
- More successful work with communities and economic actors.
