Low income families to benefit from Pando’s new project

Care International in Bolivia – with financing from the Royal Netherlands Embassy – on October 1, 2006 initiates in the city of Cobija a project designed to contribute to the sustainable development of low income families (men, women and youth) in the border areas of Bolivia, Peru and Brazil. The project objective is to advance promote alternative socioeconomic strategies while maintaining the rich biodiversity of the Amazonian jungle of the region.

The initiative goes by the name Tri-national Amazonian Project (PAT), and will encourage greater civic participation in decision making processes around forest management, economic development, communication and strengthening of local capacities for development.
The PAT project has a duration period of four years with funding provided primarily by the Dutch Government through the Netherlands Embassy based in La Paz. CARE Bolivia provides additional funding to support the program.

Partner organizations and institutions have participated in the design of the proposal and with community input, have insured that the program will respond to specific local needs and demands.

PAT headquarters will be in Cobija, Bolivia, from where the activities in the other three countries will be coordinated, particularly in the municipalities of Acre, Brazil; Madre de Dios, Peru; and Pando, Bolivia.

CARE in Bolivia will work in partnership with other organizations in the region to complement their efforts in accordance with the programmatic principle of working in partnership with local institutions. To further this effort, joint collaborative sessions will be held as well as consultative processes within each of the countries.
