I am grateful to Care because thanks to them I learned to feed and take care of my Dominguita, better than my own children
Felicidad de Simona Peñaranda Junto a Dominguita
One of her granddaughters when only a few days old, was left by her mother for Simona to take care of, without considering the amount of dedication and care that a newly born baby needs.

Simona Peñaranda, 60 years old from the Paslapaya Baja community in the Sopachuy municipality, department of Chuquisaca, has one daughter and two sons who work on the land.

Simona tells of how: “One day my son-in law had a baby, my Dominguita, after one week in hospital she came home, she told me, it is hard to care of two kids and take care of Osvaldo her husband. Santa Cruz is dangerous, his work is too far to bring him his food, to see the situation I said to Estita take me there, it will be clear if he lives or dies, his mother accepted.

My Dominguita had been ill for a few days, it seemed that she had a urinary infection so I had to take her to hospital, it took almost a month for her to recover, I cried a lot.

At home, I breast-fed her, I fed her like this for a year, the first few days nothing came out, afterwards there was enough milk, it was very easy, now I don’t have to get up in the night to breastfeed, after a little while, I sold my sheep and I bought a goat, in order to give her more milk.

CARE taught us to combine foods, to take care of our children and gave us food, Dominguita takes api night and day, even the bees eat the api, she has become accustomed to these products and they have done her no harm, she is very plump, the doctors that come to make the check-ups say that she is different from the babies that have their own mother, she is now two and a half.
Education in health and childcare for children under 3 years old until they become healthy.

In the Sopachuy municipality 3 years of intervention has helped to lower:

• Chronic malnutrition in 8 places, from 53% to 45%

• Global malnutrition in 10 places from 26% to 16% and have controlled 99% of diarrea related illnesses.
